This project is typical of the type of renovation project Nouvelle excels at: a new home is purchased, but needs to be updated, or simply changed to suit the new owner’s needs. In this case, it was both.
A larger more comfortable kitchen that allowed for in-kitchen dining whilst enjoying the expansive view was the highest priority. This was brilliantly achieved by orientating the island contrary to the conventional approach of having the longer length parallel to the wall run. Changing the orientation now means all but one of the diners has access to the view.
This configuration also means that not only are the two work triangles clearly defined, the result creates two separate areas within the same space – one for the cook and one for serving and dining at. The addition of a wine fridge at the island further emphasises this.
Additions like a bi-fold appliance cabinet, pull-out spice racks either side of the stove, Le Mans corner unit, and a pull-out pantry simplify every day use.
The new bi-fold door on the window above the sink allows for easy access to the outdoor entertaining area, making the task of those servicing that area much easier, both within and without.
Black, white and timber make for a soothing, elegant, yet interesting colour palette, with the addition of greenery softening the look, whilst the marble-look engineered stone ups the lux element.
In addition, a kitchenette was required to house a full height wine fridge and provide for extra prep and clean-up space.
The laundry was kept practical, yet made more interesting design-wise by adding some feature timber elements.
