not only show-stopping, but also functional spaces has risen. Just about every room in the home has been re-thought over the years, with multi-function being one of the main driving forces. Fully custom home design can offer many options to create any style. Creating a continuous flow from one room to the next, or creating feature rooms, means you should consider styling that suits your personality and the desired personality you want for your home.
Here are some current styles to considered:
Typical features of modern kitchen designs are the use of bold angles, straight lines, unusual curves, and clutter-free surfaces, complimented by textures and natural patterns in stone, timber or concrete. Either bold or subtle colours, contrasting with dark, or a pop of colour. Gloss or satin/matt finishes, as well as the use of metallics and glass, also feature in this style. Sleek hardware for cabinetry, appliances, accessories and lighting are a must. The integration of as many appliances as possible is high on the list for this look too – think integrated fridges, dishwashers, etc. A look towards the futuristic, with the use of the latest technology, such as integrated communication tools and home automation technology, is also often seen in this style. Hidden appliances and preparation/utility areas area a must.
Simplicity of design, clean lines and subtle hues defines the typical contemporary look. Earthy looks incorporating either a variety of materials, such as timber, stone, flat colours and some metallics and glass, or simple one or two-tone choices for finishes, with uninterrupted lines, achieved by having handle-less cabinetry, integrated appliances and hidden preparation/utility areas, such as integrated laundry, butler’s pantry and built in features such as TV’s, ironing boards, etc., hidden in joinery.
Typically, a mix of luxurious, yet at the same time comfortable, and comforting, defines the classic traditional design. There is a focus on details such as arches, decorative adorning pieces, and embellishments. Luxury benchtops, cabinetry with neutral, satin colours with profiled doors, tiled backsplash, and ornate lighting such as a traditional style pendant light. Appliances and accessories also in traditional style in a kitchen, usually incorporates the use of large freestanding stove, butler sinks, and range style rangehoods. The use of pilasters and corbels in the joinery design as well as fancier benchtop edging and door details, add substance to this look.
A beautiful kitchen design that emphasizes rustic touches, ornate details, and luxurious finishes and furnishings. Soft, natural colours from the grey and ivory palette provide an elegant feel. Wrought iron and wood feature strongly, along with some metals and intricate glass. A timeless style for any home. Incorporates some similar features to the traditional style, such as period lighting and appliances/accessories. Both do not demand integration of appliances, nor the hiding of utility areas, though of course, these features may be incorporated if desired.
Well-lit areas with a predominantly white colour theme throughout, although blues and greys are also popular with this style. Timber floorboards and distressed timber furniture complement this style well. Glass and brushed or distressed metallic accents are also often incorporated into this style. Crisp nautical and natural colour palette throughout the home, including other décor items such as cushions, vases, rugs and window treatments (think window shutters and bi-fold doors to the outside as popular choices). Open spaces with floor to ceiling glass doors or skylights for natural light.
Warm and welcoming, this country style kitchen includes trimmings and materials that reflect the rural lifestyle. Characterised by the use of timber for benchtops, cabinetry, or flooring. Often used in conjunction with colours such as yellow, green, red, or blue mixed, with neutrals such as white, cream, or pastels. Floral patterns and tiles, and vintage style appliances and accessories, such as butler sinks and range style stoves are a good addition to anchor this style. Rustic antique décor items complement this style well.
Look in many cafes and commercial buildings, and you will see concrete, metals and unfinished timbers still reigning supreme. Our kitchen designers can assist to bring this industrial look kitchen into your home, in a way that will be both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
