Here are some handy ways to reduce your energy bill when designing your kitchen and installing a refrigerator or freezer:
- Opt for a cool position in the kitchen. Having your fridge or freezer in full sun or beside an oven will only increase your fridge or freezer’s workload.
- Allow adequate air flow around the back and on top of your fridge. More than 8cm seems to be the popular choice for clearance. However, check the manufacturer’s instructions on your product, as some freezers can require over 25cm.
- Choose a product with a good energy saving rating.
- If you don’t really need it, get rid of any old fridges or freezers. They chew up energy, raising your electricity bill, and contribute to harmful greenhouse gases.
