When you don”™t have the space in your apartment for a large kitchen, there are effective design tips to still give you the kitchen you will love. Just because your kitchen is small, it should still be both comfortable and functional. When designing your apartment kitchen, it is important to plan ahead to get the design that will work best in the space you have.
One of the first things you need to think about is the size of your appliances. With a small kitchen, you don”™t want the appliances taking up too much space. Look into space-efficient appliances that allow more room for valuable cabinet and counter top real estate. Install mounted microwaves and flat top burners.
In an apartment, you may not be able to have a hood over your burners that vent outside. But, there are other options to vent while you cook, including recirculation vents or even a modern pop-up exhaust fan.
Consider a small countertop seating area with cabinet below to utilize that space wisely. If there is room in your kitchen, an island is an effective use of countertops, eating area, with cabinets below.
There are small things you can do to make your apartment kitchen appear bigger. A light-colored or mirrored backsplash gives the illusion of a larger space. Along those same lines, glass or transparent cabinet doors are a clever addition. Having small storage drawers under the cabinets is another great use of space. Bright light is a necessity to make any room appear larger; avoid dark colors or dim lighting.
If you can”™t build out, build up! In other words, take advantage of the ceiling space for more storage. This is a great place to put cabinets or put in hanging utensil holders to save on drawer space. If possible, consider a wall partition instead of a full wall ”“ this will definitely make the room look larger.
