When creating a bathroom for your teenager, don’t be surprised with the colour requests and design features your budding adult makes. You may have thought your daughter was ‘over the pink phase’ or that your son relished chaos. You may soon discover that soft pinks with butterflies and flowers, and an orderly, clutter-free bathroom is all the go!
You may also have thought your offspring really didn’t care about the decor of the new bathroom, and expected the “yeah, whatever” response to your design queries. Think again! It’s highly possible that your son or daughter is very interested in the look of their future bathroom. So why not give them the opportunity to contribute with a list of what they’d like. Of course, bear in mind a jacuzzi, baskets of rose petals, or a body dryer may top that list – and that you might have to burst your treasured one’s bubble!
Experience has shown us that the number one request from teenagers in their bathroom design is privacy. It’s this time of life that their bodies are changing, and these young people are so very conscious of this fact. They want to know they can step out of the shower and not have Mum or Dad accidentally walk in on them, so locks on the doors are very important.
Efficiency in design is another important, yet often overlooked and unspoken aspect of the bathroom. As a teenager becomes more conscious of the way they present themselves to the world there will quite possibly be an increase in the time spent in the bathroom. Getting ready to venture out into the big wide world where one is suddenly the centrepoint of one’s peers can be a full-on task! Efficiency in design will cut down time and effort and the need to use Mum and Dad’s bathroom to check make-up under the proper lighting, or to use that full-length mirror.
